HELLO LONDON

Hello, this is London Calling!

Welcome to the Big Smoke, to London Town, to the city of a million dreams, faces and places. A city of change and innovation, a multicultural melting pot of every extreme, of every persuasion and every colour in between. Live it, love it or loathe it you will never forget London – it’s a monument to Humanity. A reflection of who we are and where we are going. We couldn’t be prouder to call this city our home.

London is where it all began. Midnight Runners was born on these streets and grew up gazing over the Thames. As our original chapter, London has a special place in our hearts. It is a total kickass community and also has one hell of a schedule. Want to run 10k or 100k? Want to climb a mountain with new buddies? Want to challenge yourself and belong? Well put on a crash helmet and jump straight in for the ride of your life.

Welcome to London Midnight Runners.

London FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

London FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR YOUR EVENTS IF I’M NEW?

Head to our Registration Page on the site - sign up and select the event you'd like to attend.

Sign up via our mobile app myCrew (iOS | Android). Register your account on the app and select the event you'd like to attend. Don’t forget to ‘check in’ on the app on arrival. Check in opens 30 minutes before the event.

2. DO I STILL NEED TO SIGN UP FOR REGULAR EVENTS IF I’M A MEMBER?

YES! If you are a paying member you still need to sign up to each event on the myCrew app. As a paying member you can sign up to any event (there are no limitations!).

3. HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?

Open myCrew and choose between 3 month membership (£36) or annual membership (£120). As a member, you get full access to all of our events and you can also collect a free Midnight Runners running t-shirt sponsored by Reebok.
If you are newbie, register your account and the myCrew app will enable you to sign up for two events for free.

4. I'VE JOINED AS A MEMBER. HOW CAN I COLLECT MY FREE MIDNIGHT RUNNERS T-SHIRT?

We hand out t-shirts for new members before every Tuesday Boot Camp Run – make sure you turn up nice and early to collect it!

5. THE EVENT SAYS IT’S FULL, CAN I STILL COME?

If you are not able to sign up to the event on the app, then unfortunately you can't attend it. We have to put a cap on our events for safety reasons and therefore have a limited number of non-member slots each week. We recommend signing up to another future MR event or becoming a member.

6. IS THERE A FEE?

Your first two events with us are free! Download myCrew, sign up for the event, come along and try it out, we're pretty sure you'll be back for more. After two events, we ask you then to become part of our community by purchasing one of our membership options - your support makes this happen and continues the growth of fun fitness for all!

7. HOW OFTEN/ WHEN DO YOU RUN?

Please check our Facebook page for the latest details but typically:

 • Tuesday 10km Boot Camp Run - EVERY WEEK - starting at 7:30pm (please arrive by 7:15pm to check in and leave your bag)

 • Thursday Track - MOST WEEKS - starting at 6:45pm

 • Sunday Runs - MOST WEEKS - usually starts at 10:30am

 • Midnight Runs - ONCE A MONTH on Fri/ Sat - usually starts at 8pm

8. HOW FAST DO YOU RUN/ AM I FAST ENOUGH?

The speed of our group varies between 4min / km to 6 min / km (6.5 min/ miles to 9.5 min /miles). On our 10km bootcamp runs the workout stops are a perfect opportunity for slower runners to catch up with the faster ones but to enjoy them, you should be capable of running 10k in 60 mins.

9. WHAT DISTANCE DO YOU TYPICALLY RUN?

 • Tuesday Boot Camp Run - 10km but we stop every 2km to engage in awesome boot camp exercises

 • Sunday Runs - we vary the length and can be anywhere between 10km and 50km (for the ultra runners amongst us!) so please check on our Facebook page or myCrew for details

 • Midnight Runs - typically around 10 km long

10. WHERE DO YOU MEET UP?

11. IS THERE A BAG CHECK AVAILABLE?

 • Tuesday Boot Camp Run - Yes, there is an opportunity to store your clothes & bags securely on Tuesdays. Please turn up at least 20 minutes before the run to securely store your bag.

 • Thursday Track: Yes, we leave our bags together by the track and there is always someone to look after them. There are also lockers available at the track.

 • Sunday / Midnight runs - No, typically runners will pack light and carry a small rucksack if needed.

12. WHO ORGANISES MIDNIGHT RUNNERS?

Midnight Runners is organised by a group of volunteers, known as Crew - you will recognise them by the Orange C bands at events. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes and none of the Crew are paid by Midnight Runners, in fact they are all paying Members of the community! We all have other jobs but are enthusiastic about keeping running inclusive and fun.

13. WHAT MUSIC DO YOU PLAY?

It varies from event to event, but it's always good running music! We also carry a bunch of Ultimate Ears Boom and Megaboom speakers as well as the PartyBag so London can hear us ;-)

14. WHAT ARE THE ‘MIDNIGHT’ RUNS?

Each month we organise a special run on Friday/ Saturday which is themed and followed by an after-run party! Past themes have included Wimbledon, Halloween and James Bond - it’s a lot of fun!

15. COULD YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE AFTER-RUN PARTY?

Sure. After the Midnight Run (typically around 11pm) we head to a bar for a party and to grab a few drinks. There is a DJ, dance floor and, like in any bar, a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

16. DOES EVERYONE GO AS THEY ARE TO THE AFTER-RUN PARTY OR IS THERE SOMEWHERE TO GET CHANGED?

Most people go as they are, but of course you can get changed. There are no showers, though.

17. I'M A MIDNIGHT RUNNERS MEMBER. DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL OFFERS OR PROMOTIONS YOU COULD SHARE WITH ME?

Yes! Once you sign up you will receive a link to the special offers in the membership confirmation email.

We are super excited to have you join our family of fun fitness fanatics. We train hard and we socialise even harder. So if you're looking for a place to get fitter and to get to know A LOT of active people - look no further.

But don't take our word for it - join one of our events and see for yourself what we are all about.

The first two events are with 'no strings attached’. Download the myCrew app and sign up for one of our events. Come and try us out – most people LOVE us. After two free events, we would like to ask you to become a member to support us in making our movement of urban fitness sustainable.

Why do we have a membership scheme?

We started Midnight Runners to make urban fitness more fun, inclusive and social. Two and a bit years and 300 events later we are larger than we ever thought we would be, we have a crew of qualified run leaders, and we have had thousands of people from all around the world run with us.

The membership scheme enables us get to know you better, and focus on developing the community but also to cover some of our most significant expenses such as crew training & qualifications, insurance, portable speakers and some event-related costs. We then should be able to make our events even louder and more fun.

There are two membership options.

3-MONTH MEMBERSHIP (£36) OR annual membership (£120) GETS YOU:

 • Full access to all of running & fitness events across London, the UK and the world,
 • FREE hand printed Midnight Runners t-shirt provided by Reebok,
 • Invites to member-only events (such as a members-only party or film night),
 • Access to crew trips to domestic & international destinations,
 • Discounts on shoes, clothing & speakers,
 • Access to members only secret Facebook page,
 • Reciprocal membership to other Midnight Runners chapters around the world,

MEET THE CREW

This wonderful bunch bring so much energy every week - hover over their pictures to find out more!

Our co-founder Christian is an MR visionary and driving force behind some of our maddest events 🙌🏼 Some of the iconic Midnight Run themes such as Wimbledon, Carnival or 007 were all his ideas. Midnight2Midnight, Circle Line Tube Boot Camp Run, 10k 10 Bridges - the list goes on. All we know is when Christian gets an idea it is going to be badass! Christian lives his life by the motto, “You don't get too old to play, you get old when you stop playing” and has taught us all a lot about how to stay young! From Ultimate Ears sponsorship, to introducing electric longboards for our photographers, he always makes sure that fun is at the core of everything we do. But fun doesn't stop him from taking running seriously. 2017 saw him take us to the Swiss Alps to run UTMB trails and he even completed a self supported trail marathon around Yosemite National Park. Back home he often paces the front group, and always pushes us to do our best. Thank you Christian for always taking everything we do up a notch and showing us that only the sky's the limit.

Little is known about his life before his days at Midnight Runners, but rumour has it that James was raised amongst race horses. That’s right, our very own Usain Holt travels so fast you might mistake him for a lightning strike. Recently crowned ‘Best Legs in England’ for the third successive year, I'm 2017 James also racked up a host of PBs from 5k to 50k. And as if that wasn’t enough, he also registered a 5th place finish in his first ever ultra marathon, and was the first British finisher in the Budapest Marathon with a time fast enough to secure a Championship entry for the 2018 London Marathon! But while his times (and legs) are mightily impressive, they're not what we love most about James. We <3 him because he is one of the most humble, genuine and caring people that you could ever meet. This year James jointly picked up the reins to lead the MR London community. From MCing to sharing tips on technique, and pushing us all to be a little better on the track and in our lives, our community has gained a lot from James's leadership. James, we’re lucky to have you leading from the front!

Say hello to Marina, Midnight Runners’ own Superwoman. It feels like there's nothing this incredible lady can't do. From planning routes to making playlists, from organising the food at Midnight2Midnight to baking her own delicious cakes, from leading cheer-squads to completing insane events herself, Marina does it all! And whatever she's doing, Marina always brings her own contagious energy. But behind that beautiful Spanish smile is a serious badass. Miss Martinez has racked up an impressive running resumé, including who-knows-how-many marathons and an ultramarathon in the Welsh mountains. With a name that means 'from the sea', perhaps it's no surprise that Marina is also an awesome swimmer. She won (yes, won) a triathlon this year and has some seriously loco challenges lined up that involve swimming between continents!

It’s hard to find the right words to describe George but the title ‘absolute legend’ fits pretty well. His list of running achievements is endless - this year alone he’s completed an ultramarathon in Wales, the Ragnar Relay in Tennessee, and OMM in Iceland. But despite all these accomplishments, George cites his biggest achievement as inspiring other runners to reach their goals. In his words, “the effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is." This philosophy is obvious when you look at George’s contributions to our community: preparing us for marathons with long runs on Sundays, pushing us to our limits at track on Thursdays and co-organising Love Trails, the indescribably awesome running festival. George epitomises what Midnight Runners is all about: running and community. If you need any tips on running, whether you’re tackling your first 5k or aiming for a marathon PB, George is always willing to share his wisdom. And as a qualified run coach, he knows his stuff! Plus, if you’re lucky, he might even tell you about the challenge he’s set himself for 2018, his biggest yet… George, you are an absolute legend.

Enjoying reading about the people who make MR so special? You have Laura to thank for that. A champion of the MR community, Laura is the driving force behind our member stories. Every Midnight Runner has a tale to tell, and Laura has a gift for putting them into words, sprinkling each with a hint of fairy-dust and bringing these inspirational journeys to life. And it doesn’t stop there… In 2017, Laura masterminded our flagship event, Midnight2Midnight – London’s epic 24-hour charity relay. Thanks to Laura’s dedication and meticulous planning, the event was nothing short of phenomenal. By encouraging hundreds of Londoners to hit the streets, Laura’s efforts raised thousands for the Mayor’s Fund for London. In her words, "it's the most spectacular thing that has ever happened to me. When that first lap went out and we realised it was all going to work, that was the best feeling in the world." We're delighted that she'll be bringing her magic touch to the event again at M2M 2018. Amongst all this Laura has also found the time for some running, recently completing the Keswick Mountain Festival 25k Trail Run with a 866m ascent! However, her running journey hasn't always been smooth. While training for the Chicago marathon in 2014, Laura was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and was forced to pull out. But was she going to hang up her running shoes? Of course not! Laura's got unfinished business in the windy city, and we're psyched that she's got a place for 2018. Laura, you've got the whole community behind you. We can't wait to see you fly.

The man, the myth, the legend: there are few people quite like George. A teacher, a rugby player, a storyteller, an Iron Man, a saxophone player, a friend, and all around wonderful human being. George is known around MR as “Bionic George” because of a ski accident that left him with 14 broken bones and heels that had to be replaced by metal. The accident left him unable to walk for 3 months, but of course that didn’t stop George. Not only did he come back stronger than ever, but this crew captain showed a quite astonishing grit, determination and mental strength to achieve goals many of us could only dream of. Since the accident, George has clocked a sub-3 hour marathon, run 50K and 100K ultra marathons and has even set the record for fastest time running the 87 miles from London to Dover! How about that for courage? And there is more to George than just his metal and mettle. An unassuming gentlemen, a natural leader and an eye for the innovative (remember the fireworks, custom star themed mixed track, and confetti bombs at the neon run?!), MR just wouldn’t be the same without him. George – we salute you. See you at the front of the pack.

They say the best things come in small packages. We totally agree, but you shouldn’t underestimate our Portuguese pocket-sized dynamo. Ana is our motivator-in-chief - don’t let her see you slacking at one of our exercise stops or it’ll be 10 more burpees! If you’ve enjoyed the new bootcamp stops this year (dirty dancing anyone?) you’ve got Ana to thank: she masterminded many of our best - and hardest - exercises. But as well as pushing us to our absolute limits, Ana also brings a ray of Portuguese sunshine to every event. Her crazy enthusiasm and fantastic sense of humour mean we’re always smiling through the pain! In 2017 Ana tackled her first half marathons, on consecutive weekends. Next up for 2018 is the full 26.2 miles. Ana, after all the Tuesdays you’ve shouted your encouragement to us, we’d be happy to repay the favour!

You may recognise this stylish man from the pages of Runners’ World. The owner of Midnight Runners’ best-groomed beard is also super hardcore. Whether it’s tackling the Ironman, carrying a speaker on his back or running marathons for fun (even on his birthday!) Sami does it all with style. Sami is also Midnight Runners’ resident designer. The MR monogram? That’s his work. Event banners? Him again. His graphics are always seriously cool, just like the man himself. Sami has run a heap marathons, including London, Berlin, & Budapest in 2017. He also rocked his first Ultra Marathon in Dorset this year! But it’s not all work and no play - if you’re lucky you might just see him letting his hair down at one of our epic parties.

In 2015 some midnight stars aligned and we picked up Matteo en route during one of our epic hot tub runs 💫 Since then, Matteo has become a pillar of our community. You’ll no doubt have seen his beaming smile as he hands out high fives during runs in London and abroad - this globetrotter is an ever-present at our international runs! Despite originally hailing from Italy Matteo could easily be mistaken for a Cockney Londoner. He knows the city like a local and he’s our go-to mega-amazing route planner. Have you ever discovered a beautiful new part of London on one of our runs? You can probably thank Matteo for that. We recently discovered Matteo’s also a tennis fanatic, and this year he MC’d an epic Wimbledon-themed Midnight Run that took us from tennis court to tennis court all across South London. On top of being an all-round hero, Matteo is a stellar runner. He’s got countless marathons under his belt and with two marathon PBs in 2017, we can’t see what’s next!

If you're reading this then there’s a high chance your facebook profile was taken by Máté 📸👍🏼 Now we’re not saying we are slaves to our social media footprint but seriously, aren't Máté “Cheese and Freeze” Fülöp's photos pretty?! You probably don’t realise how much Maté gives to the MR community behind the scenes. A tech whizz, he’s overhauled all the MR systems and turned us into a well-oiled machine. This can be a thankless job but it’s absolutely vital, so we want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude: Maté, without your incredible work we’d never have become the global community we are today. Maté’s contributions to Midnight2Midnight were huge. The event would not have been nearly as epic (or run so smoothly) if it wasn’t for Maté’s vision & execution. And let’s not forget that awesome April Fool’s run or the Budapest Special in his home country. Maté, you are an organisational powerhouse! You will have seen Maté mostly on two wheels recently. 2017 was a year plagued by injury, but we have a sneaking suspicion there are exciting things just round the corner.

Daniel is a seriously talented man. His incredible eye for detail has provided some of our most stunning photos, and he has a knack for catching people at their most natural. Daniel takes pictures that tell stories, and his work has even been showcased at the Museum of the City of New York! If you’ve ever met Daniel you’ll know he’s one of the kindest, most selfless people you’ll ever meet 🌟 as well as a seemingly bottomless source of wisdom: he’s our ultra-marathon guru, always willing to share tips on how to #respectthedistance. To date he has 20 marathons across 10 countries, as well as ultra marathons at 50K, 80k & 100k distances! A true globe-trotter, in 2017 Daniel finally got the opportunity to run at home as Midnight Runners went on tour to Budapest. If you’re ever running and a dazzling light appears in front of you, don’t panic. Run towards it and flash your biggest smile - it’s probably our brightest star Daniel and his camera, and you’ve probably got a new profile pic. 📷

Adding a serious slice of glamour to every run is our very own fashionista, Csilla 💁🏽 Without fail, her costumes at Friday night midnight runs are spectacular; whatever the theme Csilla manages to turn even the greyest London neighbourhood into our very own sophisticated MR catwalk. Csilla also has a well-earned reputation for finding awesome after run venues. If you've ever experienced a 'fuzzy' Saturday morning following a midnight run, you’ve usually got Csilla to thank. 😝 In 2017 Csilla poured her heart and soul into planning the Budapest Special back in her home country, and again took the reins for the epic - and now infamous - Carnival Run. But Csilla isn’t just killer outfits and crazy parties - underneath that immaculate exterior lies a seriously hardcore runner. Csilla has completed several ultra marathons, and notched up more than 10 marathons since taking up running 7 years ago. She recently completed the super challenging (and frankly insane) ultra marathon Tam Dao in the jungles of Vietnam. Csilla we can’t wait to see what ideas you have for the next year! Bring it on - we'll see you on the dancefloor at the afterparty 💃🏼

Olga is our fitness queen and one of the happiest, most enthusiastic people you’ll ever meet! ✊🏼 Olga has always loved running, but she didn’t understand its full power until a bike accident over 3 years ago. Despite a long & painful recovery, Olga used the accident as fuel to reclaim her love for fitness, even ditching her career in fashion to become a Personal Trainer. Olga is now our resident PT and exercise guru. She is the mastermind behind many of our exercises and graciously teaches us about proper posture & form. You’ll find her on Tuesdays shouting the exercises and whipping us into shape! With her positive energy and dazzling outfits, you can count on Olga bringing light to every event. Whether it’s a rainy 10K bootcamp run or an insane ultramarathon up and down mountains (including CTS Dorset Ulta+), her smile never fades. Olga, thanks for sparkling so bright.

Gethin is a man of many talents, though he’s so modest you could go years without discovering all his skills. Did you know he was the fastest Midnight Runner round the London Marathon course in 2017? And as if that wasn’t impressive enough, he did it backwards, in the middle of the night, with no cheering crowds. Incredible! Among his other accomplishments Geth’s a former county chess champion and knows how to ring church bells. Ding dong! It didn’t take long for Geth to make a big impact on our community. One of his earliest events was Midnight2Midnight 2016, where we got our first glimpse of his boundless energy. Since then Geth has continued bringing his infectious enthusiasm and winning smile to all our events - he rarely misses a Tuesday or Sunday run, although you may find you only see him from behind. Geth is a speed demon, and you’ll invariably find him right at the front, leading the way and motivating our quickest runners to push themselves to the limit. That was vital during Midnight2Midnight 2017 when Geth led 3 of our loops. Oh, and casually completed another 7 just for good measure. 100k in total - Geth, you are an inspiration. 2018 is going to be a big year for this chess-playing, bell-ringing superstar. Geth will be tackling 6 marathons in 6 months and scaling Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for charity. Gethin - you’re a true gent and a great friend, and we’ll be behind you every step of the way.

Who’s that in the distance balancing on her head? Sure enough, it is our master yogi, Philly. When she’s not busy striking intricate yoga poses, you can find her balancing on a wall, leading our much needed post-run stretches 🙏🏼 Although she describes herself as a 'casual' runner and has unfortunately suffered with injury in 2016, she still completed Tough Guy, ran her first half marathon distance in Kent, completed an Ultra Duathlon and ran her furthest distance, 30k, in Snowdonia 👏🏼 On the track, she's an absolute speed demon too, regularly leaving the rest of us in her dust 💨 Oh and remember all of the great treats we had at M2M? All that sponsorship was thanks to Philly too. So yes, not only is she incredibly beautiful, flexible and bloody talented, she's also one of the loveliest people around. Maybe we should start a new hashtag? #bemorephilly

Meet Michelle: black is the new orange for our pint-sized bundle of smiles who traded in Orange County for Midnight Runners, and she brings a little slice of California cool to our rainy British streets. If you’ve ever joined one of our famous themed runs, you’ll know about Michelle’s impressive fancy dress skills. Her facepaint is always on point, but it’s not just makeup that keeps Michelle busy before our runs. She helped organise the epic Neon run, and is involved in putting together the signature MR playlists. Michelle has a ear for songs that’ll get everyone turnt. And did we mention that Michelle runs like a pocket rocket? She was part of the team that came first in its category in the Ragnar Relay. Next up: her first marathon. Michelle, we can’t wait to see you crossing that finish line beaming your signature Cali’ smile.

Midnight Runners exists for people like Amy. Before finding MR she didn’t consider herself a runner, but a friend brought her along to one of our bootcamp runs and within two weeks she was hooked. “On my second ever run, on an INSANELY rainy Tuesday, I had an epiphany while lying in a puddle doing scissor kicks…” Amy’s running journey is just beginning but she’s already racked up 30K at Midnight2Midnight and a bunch of trails runs. Amy’s cheery attitude makes her super fun to be around but don’t underestimate her: Amy is seriously quick, and if you find yourself paired with her at one of our exercise stops, prepare to be pushed to the limit by one of our strongest crew captains! We’ll let Amy have the last word: “The MR community has changed my life. It's funny that you don't realise you’re missing something until that something comes along.” Amen Amy.

Did you see that? No, it wasn’t a flash of lightning, it was crew captain Dana. 2017 was a pretty epic year for this speedy lady - PBs in 10k, half marathon and the full 26.2, with a Boston qualification time to boot. Boom! Dana joined MR after accidentally stumbling across us one evening and since that serendipitous meeting, in her own words, “Midnight Runners changed my life.” Her story shows the impact Midnight Runners can have on its members; not only has she turned into a super-fast runner, she’s changed in ways she never expected. "I’ve gained confidence, stepped out of my comfort zone and pushed myself to my limits. Now I’m a better runner, a better person and a better friend.” Wow! Dana, that’s one hell of a message. On behalf of the whole community we want to say thanks… if only we could catch up with you

When you run around with crazy people, it’s only a matter of time until you start doing crazy things. At least, that's the way crew captain Lou sees it. Lou knew she was a Midnight Runner after a trail run last year. “Until that point I'd only run in the city, on roads or in parks but as a MR member I was encouraged to give trail running a go. It was a 20km route along the river Cray in January. The weather was close to freezing but everyone brought so much energy. I had an incredible time!” Was that a one-off? No chance! “What's so special about the Midnight Runners community is not that it has hundreds of amazing runners who can run super-fast or complete extreme endurance events (although that is cool) but it's that MR creates these amazing moments when one person’s passion unlocks an interest in another. I see it happening at our events all the time.” These experiences lit a fire in Lou and as a result she’s had an absolutely crazy year of running. Last year she cut 25 minutes from her half marathon PB, ran her first 25km trail race in the Lake District, ran her first road marathon (back home in Yorkshire), scaled the Dorset Coast for the CTS half marathon, and ran her first ever trail marathon in Northumberland. Phew! With such an impressive resumé of events, Lou's become our go-to gal for race calendars. If you're ever looking for people to run with, Lou is sure to know who is racing and where! Lou, we’re certain that next year is going to be even crazier and can’t wait to see what you inspire us to do!

The first time we heard Esther’s laugh we automatically knew she would fit right in. And just like her laugh her personality is equally infectious. We are obviously not alone in thinking this: when Esther ( @estherruns ) started running with us it seems that she brought the party with her. 🎉 Our small group of runners literally doubled over night. Esther is our Midnight2Midnight Queen. In 2015 and 2016, she has led the charge for our annual 24 hr charity relay. Trust us, this woman can do it all… event planning, logistics, marketing, sponsorship, promotion, & rallying runners for a good cause! It is not only her awesome personality and exquisite organizational skills that makes Esther an incredible piece of the MR family – she also inspires us too. Esther’s story on her path to becoming a runner is pretty famous (she did her first marathon with a broken ankle😱) and despite battling a recurring injury all year, Esther completed the 100k Race to the Stones.👏🏻 And of course in true Esther style… not only did she complete the mega challenging ultra-marathon, but she also managed to convince a group of 30 Midnight Runners to join her. Quite simply life with Esther is one big party. It has been a riot young lady. Photo by David Altabev.
